Bernard Mendy: Gambian defender joins Pohronie on free transfer from Podbrezova
Gambian defender Bernard Mendy has joined Slovak side Pohronie on a free transfer from Nike Liga club Podbrezova. The 20-year-old switches to the II. Liga outfit in a permanent move dated 15 July 2026.
Mendy, who plays primarily in defence, moves after a brief spell with Podbrezova, having arrived there earlier in 2026. His transfer strengthens Pohronie’s back line as they prepare for their league campaign in Slovakia’s second tier.
The Gambia-born player has already experienced several changes of club early in his career. Before signing for Podbrezova, he was on the books of Marimoo, with a loan stint at Czech side Dukla Prague B during the first half of the 2025-26 season. That loan concluded at the end of December 2025, after which he returned to Marimoo and then made the move to Slovakia.
Although he is still at an early stage of his professional journey, Mendy has already sampled different footballing environments in The Gambia, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. His versatility across the defensive line offers Pohronie an additional option as they look to compete in the II. Liga.
Mendy’s contract start date with Pohronie is listed as 15 July 2026, confirming his status as a Pohronie player ahead of the forthcoming season.
