Karim Benzema Frustrated as Another Goal Disallowed Against Spain
Karim Benzema’s growing frustration with referees deepened after yet another goal was ruled out — this time during France’s 1-0 victory over Spain at the Stade de France.
The French striker, who previously had goals disallowed at the World Cup against Honduras and Switzerland, saw his celebrations cut short once more. After a fine assist from Moussa Sissoko, Benzema skillfully redirected the ball into Spain goalkeeper David De Gea’s side netting, only for the linesman to raise the offside flag.
“I haven’t reviewed the footage yet to know if I was offside or not, but it’s starting to piss me off,” Benzema told reporters in the mixed zone. “Despite everything, the main thing is that we won. I really enjoyed myself tonight.”
Whether a string of unfortunate calls or simply the law of the game, Benzema’s patience with referees appears to be wearing thin.
