Ramy Bensebaini reacts after mistake in Dortmund match

Ramy Bensebaini’s misplaced pass led to the decisive moment as Borussia Dortmund were beaten 1-0 at home by Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.

The Algerian defender, Ramy Bensebaini, endured a difficult evening as his error allowed Robert Andrich to score the only goal of the match in the 42nd minute.

The result came in a fixture that also featured fellow Algerian international Ibrahim Maza, who started for Leverkusen.

The match began with early tension for Bensebaini, who received a yellow card in the fifth minute, setting the tone for a challenging performance.

Both teams approached the contest with intensity, but clear chances remained limited as the first half progressed.

The key moment arrived shortly before the interval. In an attempt to read the play, Bensebaini moved to intercept a pass involving Maza, who had received the ball with his back to goal some distance from the penalty area.

As the sequence unfolded, Dortmund briefly regained possession through Julian Brandt, who recovered the ball and fed it to Bensebaini.

However, the defender’s attempted forward pass was intercepted, allowing Andrich to seize the opportunity and strike from distance, finding the net to give Leverkusen the lead.

Dortmund were unable to recover from that setback in the second half, despite efforts to push forward in search of an equaliser. Leverkusen, meanwhile, managed the game effectively, holding on to secure all three points.

The result leaves Dortmund maintaining their position near the top of the Bundesliga standings, sitting second behind Bayern Munich and remaining well placed in the race for Champions League qualification.

For Bayer Leverkusen, the victory keeps them firmly in contention for a place in next season’s Champions League, with every point proving vital as the campaign progresses.

While the match turned on a single moment, it underlined the fine margins at this stage of the season, where individual errors can prove decisive. For Bensebaini, the costly mistake ultimately defined the outcome of an otherwise closely fought contest.
