Former Kenya international Bernard Mwalala has backed Benny McCarthy’s appointment as head coach of the national team, saying he is the right man for the job.
The South African football legend was recently appointed to lead the Harambee Stars, signing a two-year contract with the Kenya FA.
The former assistant coach of Manchester United is expected to lead the Harambee Stars until 2027.
His is expected to lead Kenya in the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifying games against Gambia and Kenya.
And Bernard Mwalala insists Benny McCarthy is the right man to lead the Kenya national team.
“I remember when I came up against him during my time at Bandari, he set up his team to play attacking football throughout, and we have also seen him stick to the philosophy in the teams he has managed in South Africa”
“His players are always comfortable with the ball and play attractive football, He is the right man for the job. We have secured the services of a man who has played the game and coached at the top level. I have no doubt in my mind that he will improve our fortunes”
Bernard Mwalala made 13 appearances for Kenya, scoring just a goal for the Harambee Stars.
