Beninese midfielder Loïc Hounkanlin targets CAF comeback after early exit with Gbohloé-Su
Loïc Hounkanlin, the promising Beninese midfielder, continues to rise through African football after gaining valuable experience with Togo’s Gbohloé-Su in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Trained at Espoir Sport (CeFES), Hounkanlin began his journey as a standout talent before making his mark at continental level.
Although Gbohloé-Su were eliminated in the first preliminary round by Burkina Faso’s USFA, the young midfielder remains optimistic and determined to push his team forward in the upcoming Togolese Pro League campaign.
Hounkanlin played a major role in Espoir Sport’s (CeFES) promotion to the Beninese third division in 2022. After two impressive seasons with the Eagles, his consistent performances earned him a move to the professional ranks.
Having trained at Sobemap FC, he will now continue his progression with Sitatunga FC for the 2024/25 season, his first in the top flight.
Focused on success, Hounkanlin aims to help Gbohloé-Su finish among the top two teams in the 2025/26 Pro League season.
His main goal is to secure qualification for next season’s CAF interclub competitions.
The midfielder believes that the team’s strong pre-season preparations, including their participation in the CAF Confederation Cup and the Togolese Super Cup, have set a solid foundation for the league challenge ahead.
Despite missing the first leg against USFA due to injury, Hounkanlin delivered a commanding display in the return match, recording 90% passing accuracy, winning most of his duels, and creating several chances.
He admitted that the early elimination was painful but viewed it as an invaluable learning experience.
Hounkanlin dreams of representing Benin at the international level — a goal he continues to chase with focus and belief.
