Beninese forward Rodolfo Aloko secures long-term move to MLS side Crown Legacy FC
Beninese international Rodolfo Aloko has signed a long-term deal with Crown Legacy FC, the reserve team of Charlotte FC, marking a significant step forward in the 18-year-old striker’s career.
Currently playing for NK Kustošija Zagreb in Croatia, Aloko has agreed a contract running until 2029, with an option for a further year in 2030.
The move was officially confirmed by Charlotte and acknowledged by his parent club, Kustošija, who revealed that the deal was completed before the closure of Major League Soccer’s secondary transfer window.
For now, the young striker will remain in Europe to continue his development. He is set to stay on loan with Kustošija until December 2025, before joining his new teammates in North Carolina for preseason training in January 2026.
The arrangement is designed to ensure he maintains regular playing time at a competitive level before transitioning to the United States.
Zoran Krneta, general manager of Charlotte FC, spoke with enthusiasm about the signing, underlining the club’s vision for Aloko’s role in the future.
“Rodolfo is a promising and versatile striker with great physical attributes and an extremely strong work ethic,” Krneta said. “His speed and ability to make a difference have made him highly sought after by top European clubs, and we are delighted to have secured his signature.”
For Charlotte, the acquisition highlights a clear commitment to investing in emerging talent. By tying down Aloko to a long-term contract, the club is signalling its intent to position itself as a hub for youth development, blending local opportunities with international recruitment.
Aloko, who hails from Sô-Ava in Benin, is widely regarded as one of his country’s brightest young prospects. His performances in Croatia since arriving in January have drawn growing attention, with the teenager recording four goals and seven assists in 15 appearances for Kustošija.
His progress has reinforced his reputation as a forward capable of both scoring and creating, a combination that has added depth to his profile.
The forward’s potential had already been evident on the international stage. At the 2023 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations, Aloko showcased his eye for goal, further enhancing his credentials as a rising star of Beninese football.
With his national team currently involved in the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign in Abidjan, he remains part of the country’s plans while preparing for his eventual move to MLS.
For the player himself, the next year will be pivotal. Remaining in Europe offers him the chance to mature further in a competitive environment before embarking on his American adventure.
By January 2026, when he finally links up with Crown Legacy FC, the expectation is that he will be ready to adapt swiftly to the demands of the league.
Charlotte’s decision to secure Aloko at such an early stage of his career reflects confidence in his trajectory. Youth, athleticism, and room for growth are qualities highly prized by MLS clubs, and in Aloko, Charlotte believe they have found a forward who fits that exact profile.
With a blend of promise and ambition, Aloko’s transfer represents more than just a personal milestone—it underscores the growing global reach of MLS and its appeal as a destination for emerging African talent eager to prove themselves on the international stage.
