Beninese forward Rodolfo Aloko faces surgery after knee injury setback

Benin international Rodolfo Aloko is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after sustaining a serious knee injury that requires surgery.

The Charlotte FC forward suffered a meniscus tear during his country’s recent match against Lesotho, halting his progress at both club and international level.

The injury comes as a heavy blow to Aloko, who had been enjoying an encouraging run of form with the Cheetahs.

His displays had impressed head coach Gernot Rohr, who expressed his regret at losing one of his most promising attacking options ahead of the October international camp.

“Unfortunately, we also have a more serious injury, that of Rodolfo. He has a meniscus injury and needs surgery.

He will probably miss the next matches in October. It’s sad news because he was improving, having put in two very good performances,” Rohr explained.

Aloko’s recent outings for Benin had showcased his sharpness and ability to influence matches, strengthening his role within Rohr’s plans.

The setback will therefore force the coach to rethink his attacking options for the upcoming fixtures, while also depriving Charlotte FC of a player they had only recently added to their squad.

The timing of the injury is particularly difficult for the 21-year-old forward, who was beginning to establish himself in Major League Soccer following his move to Charlotte FC.

His absence will not only disrupt his integration into American football but also stall the momentum he was building with the national team.

Recovery from meniscus surgery typically demands several weeks, and in some cases months, of rehabilitation. That means Aloko could miss a significant part of the season, depending on how well he responds to treatment.

For a player at the start of his professional journey abroad, the enforced layoff represents both a physical and psychological test.

For Benin, the blow is twofold. Not only will Rohr lose a striker who had demonstrated steady growth, but the team must also adjust their tactical approach without him in key competitive fixtures.

With the Cheetahs eager to maintain progress on the international stage, Aloko’s absence reduces their depth and attacking flexibility.

At club level, Charlotte FC face a similar challenge. Having invested in Aloko’s potential, they will now need to manage his absence carefully while ensuring his recovery is not rushed.

His long-term fitness remains a priority, as both club and country view him as a player with the talent to make a lasting impact.

Despite the frustration surrounding the injury, Aloko’s recent performances serve as a reminder of his ability and promise.

The hope for both Charlotte FC and Benin is that his surgery and rehabilitation go smoothly, allowing him to return stronger and continue the progress he had started before this untimely setback.
