Benin Women’s team travel to Abidjan for two international friendlies
Benin women’s national football team, known as the Amazones A, have departed for Abidjan to play two international friendly matches against sides qualified for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The team left Benin on Wednesday, 25 February, ahead of a match against the Ivory Coast women’s national football team, the Elephants, scheduled for 28 February at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium.
A second fixture against Kenya women’s national football team will take place on 2 March at the Alassane Ouattara Olympic Stadium.
Coach Abdoulaye Ouzérou will use the friendlies as an opportunity to evaluate players and strengthen the squad. “This training camp will allow us to work on cohesion and prepare the team for future competitions,” he said.
Although Benin was eliminated during the qualifiers for the Women’s AFCON 2026, the team aims to maintain match fitness and continue player development.
The upcoming games are designed to give players exposure to international competition and to identify key areas for tactical and technical improvement.
The two friendly matches in Abidjan also provide a chance to measure the team against top-level opponents in a competitive environment.
By facing teams that have already secured qualification for the continental tournament, the Amazones A can gain valuable experience and continue their growth on the international stage.
Benin’s participation in these friendlies reflects the federation’s commitment to developing women’s football and sustaining momentum within the national team, even outside of official qualifying campaigns.
