Beninese international Jacques Bessan has officially joined Omani top-flight club Ibri FC for the 2024-2025 season. The 31-year-old striker, previously unattached after his stint with Libyan side Al Murooj, is set to begin a new chapter in his career with the move to Oman.

Bessan, a native of Abomey, has had a challenging year with Al Murooj, where he managed just three goals and one assist in eight appearances.

Now, with his contract finalized at Ibri FC, the 1.90m forward is ready to prove himself once again, in what many hope will be a career-reviving spell in the Omani league.

This move to Ibri FC marks a return to Oman for Bessan, who has had a career defined by frequent transfers and spells across various clubs and leagues.

Known for his physical presence and aerial ability, Bessan’s career has taken him to over 15 clubs across the African continent, including notable sides such as Stade Tunisien, TP Mazembe, and Olympique Béja.

Yet, despite his potential, he has struggled to secure a long-term place as a key figure in any team’s offensive setup.

Bessan’s return to Oman, a country he is familiar with from previous stints, represents yet another opportunity for the Beninese forward to stabilize his career and establish himself in a competitive league.

For Ibri FC, signing a player with Bessan’s international experience and goal-scoring abilities adds an interesting dynamic to their attacking options for the upcoming season.

Bessan has earned nine caps for Benin’s national team, contributing one goal for the Squirrels.

Despite his sporadic international appearances, the forward remains determined to reignite his club career and potentially earn more call-ups for his national team.

The move to Ibri FC is seen as a critical step for Bessan to prove his worth once again at the club level, where consistency has eluded him in recent years.

The striker’s latest move is emblematic of a career that has seen more than its share of ups and downs.

From stints at some of Africa’s biggest clubs to struggling for playing time, Bessan’s football journey has been anything but steady.

Ibri FC offers him the chance to not only showcase his goal-scoring ability but also perhaps find the stability that has been missing throughout much of his professional life.

As the 2024-2025 season approaches, Bessan will be keen to make a lasting impact for Ibri FC, both in domestic competitions and on the wider stage.

With his height, strength, and experience, he could very well become a key player for the Omani club.

It remains to be seen whether this move will finally give him the consistent platform he has sought throughout his career.

For now, both Jacques Bessan and Ibri FC will be hoping that this latest chapter in his footballing story brings success, as the striker looks to turn the page on previous struggles and lead his new team to victory in Oman.
