Benin secure first CAN 2027 qualifying win as Rodolfo Aloko strikes twice

Benin earned their first victory of the CAN 2027 qualifying campaign by beating Mauritania 2-1 on Tuesday, 29 September 2026.

Rodolfo Aloko was the decisive figure for the Guepards, scoring both goals as Gernot Rohr’s side claimed all three points in the second round of Group F matches.

Playing at the neutral Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara d’Ebimpe, Benin produced a more assertive performance than in their previous match. Their attacking intent allowed them to take control of the contest and establish a two-goal advantage through Aloko’s double.

The result marked a significant response from the Beninese team, who had faced doubts after their opening encounter. Aloko’s contribution ultimately proved enough to put them in a strong position despite Mauritania’s second-half fightback.

The Mourabitounes reduced the deficit after the interval and applied pressure in search of an equaliser. However, Benin’s defence, organised around captain Sessi D’Almeida, remained united and held on until the final whistle.

The victory gives Rohr’s team an early boost in their bid to reach the pan-African finals. Benin move provisionally into second place in Group F with three points, just behind the leaders.

Mauritania, meanwhile, slip to third on goal difference after their positive start to the qualifying campaign. With the teams separated so closely, the result sets up a tightly contested continuation of the group. The Mourabitounes will need to respond at the next international gathering.
