Benin: Former FBF President Victorien Attolou Reinstated, Reconciliation Efforts Underway
Victorien Attolou, the former president of the Beninese Football Federation (FBF), has officially regained his freedom following the decision to lift his five-year suspension. This decision was one of the key outcomes of the FBF Ordinary Congress held on August 20th, led by current president Augustin Ahouanvoebla and his executive committee.
The lifting of the ban reflects a broader initiative aimed at reconciling various stakeholders within Beninese football and fostering unity to restore the nation’s footballing image. Attolou’s return to the football community is seen as a step towards healing past divisions.
The congress also granted clemency to several other individuals previously sanctioned, including Bernard Hounouvi, Lawson Kassa, Pegyu Kassa, Come Oliveira, Jean Marie Adjignon, and Maurice Zanda. Their reinstatement signals the federation’s intent to turn a page and promote collective development in the sport.
In continuation of these reconciliation efforts, the FBF executive board will meet on Friday, September 26, with leaders of several domestic clubs—Requin de l’Atlantique, CIFAS, Caïman du Zou, Mambas Noirs, Dynamo de Parakou, Dynamo d’Abomey, Zazira, and Union Sportive de Lokossa. The goal of this meeting is to collaboratively address the challenges surrounding the organization of the national championship.
The recent moves by the FBF leadership have been well received by many observers and are seen as a crucial step toward stabilizing and revitalizing football in Benin.
