Bénie Traoré: New York move mooted for €8m Basel and Ivory Coast winger

Ivory Coast left winger Bénie Traoré of Swiss side Basel is being linked with a summer switch to MLS outfit New York Red Bulls.

The 23-year-old, who is valued at €8.00m on Transfermarkt, is the subject of fresh speculation after reports in Switzerland and the United States highlighted New York’s interest. The deal is at a rumour stage, with the probability of a move listed as “?” and no agreement yet in place between the clubs.

Traoré’s contractual situation at Basel is unclear, with no expiry date publicly recorded. That has prompted suggestions he could move on relatively easily if Basel opt to cash in – or even edge towards a free-agent scenario further down the line if no new terms are agreed.

Born in Bouaké on 30 November 2002, the 1.72m right-footed attacker operates primarily as a left winger and wears the No 11 shirt for Basel in the Swiss Super League. He joined the Swiss club after previous spells in Europe and has been used across the front line in an attacking role.

In his most recent outing for Basel, Traoré featured on the left in a league match earlier this month, contributing with his direct running in a narrow defeat against Super League opposition. While he did not score in that game, his pace and one‑v‑one ability have been key factors behind New York’s interest as they look to add a wide threat in MLS.

Traoré holds only Ivorian nationality and is yet to establish himself as a senior international, but a move to the United States could increase his visibility. If a transfer to New York does materialise, it may prove a pivotal step in shaping his reputation and accelerating the next phase of his career.
