Benfica are reportedly targeting Feyenoord winger Anis Hadj Moussa as a possible replacement for Ángel Di María, according to Portuguese media reports.
Although the deal is far from confirmed, speculation continues to grow around the Algerian international’s potential switch to the Estádio da Luz.
Hadj Moussa, who impressed in the Eredivisie last season, is being linked with a move to the Portuguese giants as they prepare for life without Di María.
However, those familiar with the player and the negotiations caution against drawing direct comparisons between the two.
Speaking to A Bola, Fortuna Sittard defender Ivo Pinto, who has faced Hadj Moussa on the pitch, praised the winger’s technical ability.
“He’s very technical and agile. He’s a real dribbler, very good one-on-one. He’s sometimes stunning,” Pinto said. “If he has to get you ten times in one-on-ones, he’ll do it.”
Despite his admiration for the Algerian’s talent, Pinto warned against setting unrealistic expectations.
“That would be unfair,” he said when asked if Hadj Moussa could be seen as Di María’s direct successor. “Di María is a world-class player, capable of turning the tables in two seconds. That creates a certain pressure and expectation. He adapted well at Feyenoord, but Benfica are much bigger; they have many more world-class players.”
Portuguese sports daily O Jogo also reported on the transfer rumour, suggesting that the negotiations between Benfica and Feyenoord are likely to be complex.
The Dutch club, under the guidance of manager Robin van Persie, reportedly view Hadj Moussa as a key asset and are expected to demand a fee exceeding €20 million for his services.
“Hadj Moussa is an important player for Robin van Persie’s Feyenoord, so it won’t be an easy deal,” O Jogo noted, adding that the Dutch side are not under pressure to sell and will drive a hard bargain.
While no official bid has been made public, the links suggest Benfica are planning strategically for the future of their right wing.
The potential arrival of Hadj Moussa would represent a significant investment in youth and raw attacking talent, with the club clearly seeking players capable of developing into long-term cornerstones of their squad.
As the summer transfer window unfolds, Benfica’s interest in Hadj Moussa will remain one to watch closely, with both clubs poised for what could be a drawn-out negotiation.
