Chemsdine Talbi, the promising 19-year-old winger from Club Brugge, has confirmed discussions with both the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and the Belgian national team as he considers his international future.
Born in Sambreville to a Moroccan father, Talbi is eligible to represent both nations.
Capable of playing as a playmaker as well as on the wing, the young talent has caught the attention of Morocco’s football authorities, who continue to pursue dual-national players to strengthen their squad.
Breakout season at Club Brugge
After turning professional in January 2023, Talbi endured a difficult spell with a knee injury last season.
However, he has bounced back impressively, making 29 appearances for the first team this campaign.
His performances have been noteworthy, with five goals and three assists to his name, further establishing him as one of Belgium’s most promising young footballers.
Torn between two nations
Speaking to RTL Sports, Talbi acknowledged the interest from Morocco but made it clear that he remains undecided.
Having represented Belgium at youth level from U15 to U18, he now finds himself at a crossroads, torn between his roots and the country where he has spent his entire life.
I am in contact with both nations. The choice has not yet been made, but I am thinking about it a little,” he said. “Morocco is also an important country for me, just like Belgium. I spent all my holidays in Morocco.
I am closer to my Moroccan family, of course, but that will not decide everything. I just want to see where I feel best.
Talbi emphasized that the decision will be made with his father, admitting the difficulty of choosing between his birthplace and his heritage.
It is complicated because you belong to both.

I was born here in Belgium, I spent my whole life here.
I am very grateful to Belgium, but Morocco is my family’s origin.
It is difficult to explain. I hope to make the right choice.
Focus remains on Club Brugge
For now, Talbi remains focused on his development at Club Brugge and is in no rush to make a final decision.
I have time. The most important thing is that I concentrate here in Bruges, establish myself in the team, and the national team will come after,” he said.
As both Morocco and Belgium continue to monitor his progress, Talbi’s decision could shape his international career for years to come.
