Vincent Kompany, the Manchester City captain from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), has been named the favorite sportsman of the year 2013 by Belgians. This honorary title, awarded for the third time, is based on the results of a survey published by the newspaper La Derniere Heure. Kompany, who leads both the Citizens and the Belgian national team defense, earned the recognition due to his impressive performance with Manchester City and Belgium, positioning the Red Devils as strong contenders for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Another Belgian footballer of Congolese origin, Romelu Lukaku of Everton, also made it to the Top 10 in eighth position. It’s worth noting that the ranking was determined based on the athletes’ personalities rather than their performances.
