After several days of speculation, it’s official now – Habib Habibou has made the move to Gantoise. The Central African striker has inked a contract for 3 and a half years.
Having been with Zulte Waregem since 2010, Habibou expressed his desire for a change since the past summer. During the last six months of the previous season, he played for Leeds in the English D2. Despite scoring 10 goals in the league for Waregem this season, he decided to leave, even with the Flandriens offering him a salary increase.
Habibou is set to join his new teammates in Spain for training. He becomes the third winter recruit for Gantoise, following Ante Puljic from Lokomotiva Zagreb and Lierse goalkeeper Matz Sels.
Habib Habibou expressed his excitement about the new challenge with KAA Gent in 2014, thanking God for the opportunity on his Twitter account.
