After conceding two goals, Ivory Coast managed to salvage a draw in the dying minutes against Belgium, a commendable outcome considering they were playing away. Here are the reactions from Didier Drogba, Gervinho, Sabri Lamouchi, and Marc Wilmots.
Sabri Lamouchi (Ivory Coast coach): “I am pleased with the result and the fighting spirit displayed by my team. We witnessed some promising aspects tonight (…) We are aware of Belgium’s qualities, and I am certain they will present a different challenge at the World Cup. Coming back from a two-goal deficit against such a formidable team is a significant achievement.”
Didier Drogba (speaking to RTL.be): “In the first half, we had possession but lacked effectiveness. We showed more ambition after the break and fortunately managed to equalize. Belgium posed a great threat upfront, putting us under pressure, but we demonstrated that we have the ability to respond.”
Gervinho (quoted on DH.be): “I believe this draw was well-deserved. We remained competitive throughout the match, despite conceding a goal from a set piece. We knew Belgium’s strength in such situations. Although we conceded an unlucky second goal, we were able to fight back. There were positives on both sides. Belgium has a formidable team capable of achieving great things at the World Cup.”
Marc Wilmots (Belgium coach): “Our first half was very positive. We created several chances and kept Ivory Coast at bay. Witsel, Mirallas, Fellaini, De Bruyne, Kompany, and Van Buyten all performed admirably. Mertens added pace and skill (…) I am satisfied with our performance until the hour mark. However, with multiple substitutions, it became more challenging.”
