Togolese defender Daré Nibombé, currently playing for Royal Bossou Dur in the Belgian second division (D2), has confirmed his transfer from Belgium to Malaysia. The 35-year-old, who has previously played for clubs like Timisoara in Romania and Mons in Belgium, stated that he had known about the move for some time before playing against Gabon. The transfer was finalized over the last week.
Despite his age, Nibombé, a stalwart in the Togolese defense, believes he still has something to offer. With the approaching Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) in which he is expected to participate, the move to Asia has raised eyebrows. However, Nibombé sees it as an opportunity to discover a new continent and football environment.
“It’s a continent that you have to discover, a football that you have to discover. I will go there, and we will see what happens next,” Nibombé said. While acknowledging the financial aspect of the decision, he emphasized that the move is driven by both sporting and financial reasons, stating, “If I export to Malaysia, it is for both sporting and financial reasons. In everyone’s life, everyone is looking to earn better. If the proposals stick, I don’t see why I wouldn’t be tempted by a trip there.”
