Vincent Kompany, along with Manchester City, faced elimination from the Champions League after their defeat to FC Barcelona in the round of 16. Despite scoring City’s only goal in the return leg, Kompany found himself criticized by “football” columnist Daniel Riolo on RMC.
Riolo didn’t hold back in his assessment, stating, “He is far down the hierarchy of good defenders at the moment.” He went on to list at least 15 central defenders he deemed better, including Barcelona’s Piqué and Mascherano, as well as those from Real Madrid and Juventus.
“Piqué has ten times more class. It’s not the same category of defenders,” Riolo remarked.
However, Riolo’s comments didn’t sit well with many on social media, with the general sentiment being a backlash against his remarks.
