Belgian trainer Yannick Ferrera backs new Morocco coach Mohamed Ouahbi for to succeed
Belgian coach Yannick Ferrera has voiced strong confidence in the appointment of Mohamed Ouahbi as head coach of the Morocco national football team, describing the decision as timely and beneficial for the Moroccan tactician’s career.
Ferrera shared his views during an interview on the “Hat-trick” program on Egypt’s ON Sports TV, where he revealed that he has known Ouahbi for nearly 20 years. The two previously worked together during their time at R.S.C. Anderlecht and later at Morocco’s FUS Rabat.
“The most important thing that distinguishes Mohamed is his personality before football. On the human side, he is a very kind person who loves his players, and the players also love him. He cares deeply about them, and this is very important,” he said.
The Belgian coach also praised Ouahbi’s technical abilities, describing him as a thoughtful and intelligent manager capable of bringing new ideas to the Moroccan national side.
“From a technical standpoint, he is an excellent coach. He excels at organising the team and always ensures that every player is in their correct position and moving in the right direction. He is also very humble and very intelligent, knowing what he wants and what needs to be done. He is capable of bringing important ideas to the Moroccan national team.”
Ferrera believes Ouahbi’s transition from the youth national team to the senior side represents a natural progression, especially after the success he achieved while working with Morocco’s youth squads.
“After his great success with the youth team, I believe the timing is very suitable and poses no risk to his professional career. This is a great opportunity for him, regardless of the World Cup results.”
Ouahbi has earned recognition for his achievements with Morocco’s youth teams and has now been entrusted with leading the Atlas Lions during a crucial period as preparations intensify for upcoming international competitions, with only three months remaining before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ferrera ended by expressing optimism about Ouahbi’s future in coaching, insisting that the new challenge with the national team will only strengthen his career.
“His career will undoubtedly continue, and he deserves this step after the outstanding work he has done with the youth team,” the Belgian added.
