Kazeem Olaigbe has completed a permanent move from Stade Rennais to Turkish side Trabzonspor, sealing a €5 million switch on Thursday, August 7, 2025, after just one season in France.
The 22-year-old Belgian-Nigerian winger, who had been seeking greater first-team opportunities, will now look to reignite his career in the Turkish Süper Lig.
As part of the deal, Rennes retain a 15% sell-on clause, while Olaigbe is set to earn an annual salary of €1.5 million in Türkiye.
Olaigbe, once considered a rising prospect in Belgian football, arrived at Rennes in the summer of 2024 after a stint with Club Bruges. Prior to that, he spent time in England where he was developed at the academies of Manchester City and Southampton.
Despite his ambitions of breaking through in Ligue 1, the young winger struggled to cement a regular place in the Rennes starting lineup, registering just over ten appearances across all competitions and contributing two assists.
With competition for attacking positions intense in Brittany, the limited playing time prompted Olaigbe to seek opportunities elsewhere. His move to Trabzonspor marks a strategic decision to gain more consistent minutes on the pitch and continue his development in a league known for its technical and fast-paced style of football.
Trabzonspor, who remain one of Türkiye’s most competitive clubs and frequent contenders for European competition, are confident in Olaigbe’s potential.
The club views the signing as a long-term investment in their offensive strength, with the hope that the Belgian winger can add depth and flair to their left flank.
Olaigbe’s new challenge comes at a crucial stage of his career. Still only 22, he is entering what many consider the pivotal years for a footballer’s growth.
The Süper Lig has proven a valuable stage for young talent looking to gain confidence and exposure, and Olaigbe is expected to benefit from a more prominent role in Trabzonspor’s attacking setup.
Rennes, meanwhile, will be looking to reinvest the transfer fee into their squad after Olaigbe’s brief stay. While the club had hoped for more from the Belgian during his time in France, the 15% resale clause leaves room for future financial gain should Olaigbe’s market value rise during his time in Türkiye.
For Olaigbe, the move represents both a fresh start and a chance to fulfill the promise he showed during his early development in England and Belgium. With expectations high at Trabzonspor and a passionate fan base behind him, the winger will be eager to make a strong impression in the months ahead.
