Divock Origi has become a free agent after AC Milan terminated his contract by mutual consent, bringing an abrupt end to a spell that never lived up to expectations at the San Siro.
The decision closes the chapter on a move that failed to gain momentum, with the Belgian forward departing well before his deal was due to expire in June 2026.
Origi, who has Kenyan heritage through father, joined Milan in 2022 following the expiration of his Liverpool contract. He arrived with a strong reputation built on decisive moments in England, but that pedigree never translated into sustained impact in Serie A.
Over more than two seasons, the striker managed just 36 appearances and scored twice, struggling to establish himself as a regular option in Milan’s attack.
Italian outlets including La Gazzetta dello Sport and Sky Sport Italia have confirmed that all paperwork has been completed, formalising the contract termination.
Origi’s last appearance for Milan came in May 2023, and he had not featured in a matchday squad since May of last year, underlining how far he had fallen from first-team consideration.
The club had been keen to resolve his situation as they reshaped their squad for the second half of the season.
Financial factors also played a role in the decision. Reports in Italy indicate Origi was earning around €300,000 per month, amounting to roughly €4 million net per season.
With Milan seeking to reduce their wage bill and reinvest in more productive attacking options, parting ways with the striker was seen internally as unavoidable given his lack of contribution on the pitch.
During his time away from competitive action, Origi was reported to have trained independently rather than with Milan Futuro, working with a personal trainer while travelling between Rome and Florence to maintain fitness.
