Belgian-Ghanaian Jeremy Doku wows Guardiola and Slot with stunning display in Man City’s Liverpool rout
Jeremy Doku stole the spotlight as Manchester City demolished Liverpool 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium, earning high praise from both Pep Guardiola and Arne Slot for his performance.
The Belgian-Ghanaian winger has quickly become one of City’s most exciting attackers, combining blistering pace with precise dribbling to trouble defences across the Premier League.
Guardiola, celebrating his 1,000th managerial game, singled out Doku as instrumental in the victory.
He described the Belgian as outstanding and praised his influence alongside Erling Haaland, highlighting his role in City’s control and attacking threat.
“Playing at home and winning is good for the international break. Gigi (Donnarumma) made the saves he should. Both the full-backs were outstanding. The midfielders gave us a lot of passes and control. Of course, the threat of Jeremy (Doku) was outstanding alongside Erling (Haaland).”
Asked if Doku put in his best display for City, Guardiola added: “One of the best by far, for influence. Their right-back Conor (Bradley) is so quick, I saw his game against Vinicius Junior (vs Real Madrid). We made a really good game.”
Doku also marked his 100th appearance for City by scoring the third goal.
Slot echoed the admiration for Doku, calling his goal unbelievable and acknowledging how the winger exploited gaps in Liverpool’s defence.
“Sometimes going in at 1-1 can give you something different in the second half. We solved some issues we were having in the second half.
“And then an unbelievable goal from Doku put us 3-0 down, but I still saw a team that wanted to get back into it.”
Doku’s work rate, three shots on target, 11 duels won and 14 passes into the final third frustrated the visitors throughout the match.
Since the 2023/24 season, Doku has completed 55 dribbles against Liverpool, 16 more than any other player versus the same opponent.
