Belgian-DR Congolese striker Romelu Lukaku loses his father

Roger Lukaku, the father of Romelu Lukaku, has passed away at the age of 58, leaving the football world in mourning.

His journey was one of determination, pride, and lasting influence on his son, who would later become Belgium’s all-time top scorer.

Roger’s career began in Belgium, where he signed for Second Division side FC Boom. His talent carried him onto the international stage with Zaire, now known as DR Congo. He represented his country in the 1994 FIFA World Cup qualifying rounds and featured at the African Cup of Nations in 1994 and 1996. Across 13 appearances for the national team, he scored six goals, leaving a mark as a reliable forward.

News of his passing has drawn messages of condolence from fans and colleagues across the football community. Many have praised both his achievements and the role he played in guiding Romelu’s early love for the game.

Romelu, now with Napoli but currently sidelined by injury, continues to carry forward his father’s legacy after playing for Manchester United, Chelsea, Everton, and Anderlecht.
