Belgian forward of Congolese descent, Samuel Mbangula, scored the winning goal for Werder Bremen on Friday night when they defeated Wolfsburg 2-1 in the German Bundesliga.

The youngster missed out on a starting role on the matchday and came into the game in the second half when he replaced Keke Topp in the 65th minute.

Wolfsburg took the lead in the 28th minute when Mattias Svanberg showed great composure in the box before firing a first-time effort into the left corner to make it 1-0.

Werder Bremen equalised in the 83rd minute through Jens Stage, who rose high to meet a cross and sent a powerful header into the right post to level the score.

Deep into stoppage time, Mbangula sealed the win for Bremen. In the 94th minute, he unleashed a first-time strike from inside the box that beat the goalkeeper and nestled inside the left post, completing the comeback and securing all three points for his side.

Tonight’s victory has pushed Werder Bremen to 7th in the German Bundesliga standings, while Wolfsburg drop further to 12th on the log.
