Belgian-Congolese coach Vincent Kompany signs new Bayern Munich deal until 2029

Vincent Kompany has signed a two-year contract extension to remain head coach of Bayern Munich until the summer of 2029, reaffirming the club’s confidence in his leadership after a stellar start to life in Bavaria.

Born in Belgium to a Congolese father, Kompany took charge of Bayern in the summer of 2024 and immediately restored the club’s dominance, guiding them to the Bundesliga title in his debut season.

He added the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup in August, further cementing his status as one of Europe’s most promising young managers.

Across 67 competitive matches, Kompany has secured 49 wins, nine draws and nine defeats. His Bundesliga record stands at 32 victories from 41 matches, averaging 2.51 points per game — a rate only bettered by Pep Guardiola in league history.

“I’m delighted about this extension,” said Bayern sporting director Max Eberl. “When we signed Vinny, we had a clear vision of our long-term path, and he’s quickly shown that he’s taking Bayern forward both on and off the pitch. He’s a unifying figure who connects the players, fans and everyone at the club.”

CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen added: “Vincent has brought the fun back to Bayern. Under his leadership, a true team has emerged that plays dominant and attractive football.”

Kompany has overseen Bayern’s best-ever start to a Bundesliga season, with seven straight wins and a remarkable +23 goal difference.

Last weekend’s 2-1 triumph over Borussia Dortmund in Der Klassiker saw the Bavarians equal BVB’s record of 12 consecutive victories to begin a campaign.

“I’m grateful and honoured by Bayern’s trust,” Kompany said. “It feels like home here, and we’ve started a wonderful journey. Now we’ll keep pushing to achieve even more.”

Bayern face Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday before visiting Borussia Mönchengladbach in the league.
