Ahmed Shobeir, the renowned sports commentator, has disclosed a brewing “dispute” over the goalkeeper position for the Egyptian national team ahead of their crucial match against the Democratic Republic of Congo scheduled for next Sunday at 10 PM.
This match marks the Round of 16 in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations held in Ivory Coast.
The three contenders for the goalkeeper role are Mohamed Abu Jabal, Mohamed Sabri, and Ahmed El-Shenawy.
After Mohamed El-Shenawy, Egypt’s primary goalkeeper, suffered an injury in the recent match against Cape Verde.
Shobeir revealed during his show “With Shobeir” on Radio On Sport FM, “The competition is fierce between the trio of Abu Jabal, Sabri, and Ahmed El-Shenawy to defend the goal in the upcoming match against the Democratic Republic of Congo.”
Shobeir pointed out, “Mohamed Abu Jabal is the closest to guarding Egypt’s goal against the Democratic Republic of Congo, despite the intense competition from the duo Mohamed Sabri and Ahmed El-Shenawy.”
It’s worth noting that Egypt secured a place in the Round of 16 by finishing second in Group B with 3 points, trailing behind Cape Verde, who topped the group with 7 points.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Republic of Congo claimed the second spot in Group F with 3 points, following Morocco, the group leader with 7 points.
The upcoming clash promises to be a crucial encounter for both teams as they vie for progression in the prestigious tournament.
