Bayern’s top priority is to extend Dayot Upamecano’s contract – Director Max Eberl insists
Bayern Munich’s sporting director, Max Eberl, has stressed that the club’s top priority is to extend the contract of centre-back Dayot Upamecano.
The German Bundesliga side for some time have been in talks with the French defender of Guinea-Bissau descent over a new contract.
Unfortunately, talks have not been finalised with the extension currently in limbo.
Speaking ahead of Bayern’s Bundesliga clash against Borussia Mönchengladbach, Eberl made it clear that the club is determined to retain the 25-year-old defender.
“It is completely clear that we as Bayern Munich are sounding out the market,” Eberl told DAZN. “Our clear goal is to extend Upa’s contract. That is our top priority. If that doesn’t work out, we have to be prepared. We would be foolish not to.”
Upamecano, who joined Bayern in 2021, has played an integral role in the squad, and the club sees him as a key component of their long-term project.
While talks remain ongoing, Bayern Munich have been strongly linked with a move to sign English-Ivorian defender Marc Guehi.
Max Eberl reportedly met with representatives of the Crystal Palace centre back early this week.
