Bayern’s Musiala briefly loses consciousness in friendly victory over RB Leipzig

Jamal Musiala briefly lost consciousness during the closing stages of Bayern Munich’s 3-1 friendly victory over RB Leipzig on Saturday, prompting new team-mate Ismael Saibari to rush to his aid.

The Germany international went down on the pitch and appeared to be unconscious for a short time. Saibari immediately went over to Musiala and called for the medical team to come on.

Musiala received treatment before leaving the field on his feet. However, the Bayern player appeared affected by what had happened as he made his way off. He was replaced by young Senegalese forward Bara Ndiaye in the 86th minute.

The incident came only a few minutes after Musiala had scored Bayern’s third goal in the 81st minute. Saibari provided the assist, marking his first appearance for the Bavarian club since joining from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven this summer.

Bayern had taken the lead through Luis Diaz before RB Leipzig levelled the score. Nathaniel Brown then restored Bayern’s advantage, with Musiala adding the third goal at Allianz Arena in Munich.

The match formed part of Bayern’s preparations for next Saturday’s German Super Cup meeting with Borussia Dortmund. Vincent Kompany’s side will then begin their Bundesliga campaign against Stuttgart on 28 August.

Saibari’s involvement in Musiala’s goal came on his first outing in Bayern colours following his summer move from PSV Eindhoven. The Morocco international reacted quickly when Musiala collapsed, ensuring medical assistance was requested immediately.

Musiala was able to walk from the pitch after receiving attention, but the brief loss of consciousness created a worrying moment late in an otherwise positive final friendly for Bayern. His replacement meant he played no further part after scoring the decisive third goal.

Bayern’s 3-1 win gave them momentum ahead of their first competitive fixture of the new campaign, with Borussia Dortmund waiting in the German Super Cup next Saturday. Their Bundesliga opener against Stuttgart will follow on 28 August.
