Bayern Munich will not be forced to sell Michael Olise, says Herbert Hainer

Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has dismissed suggestions that Michael Olise could leave for Real Madrid, insisting the German club is in a strong enough position to decide the French winger’s future on its own terms.

Olise has been linked with the Spanish club in several reports, while some observers have suggested the Bundesliga is no longer a sufficiently ambitious competition for a player of his ability.

Hainer rejected that view and said Bayern are keen to keep Olise, whose current contract runs until 2029.

“First of all, I have to say that we are extremely happy to have Michael Olise,” Hainer told German newspaper Bild.

“He has developed into one of the best players in the world. I am convinced that he can win the Ballon d’Or one day, perhaps even this year.”

Olise has enjoyed a strong period with Bayern, who reached the semi-finals of the Champions League and produced impressive performances against Paris.

Hainer said the winger was settled at the club and had the opportunity to compete for major honours while also playing at the highest international level.

“He feels very comfortable with us. He can win titles with us and play at the highest level internationally. We reached the Champions League semi-finals and produced excellent performances against Paris. That is what he wants,” Hainer added.

Addressing the reports of interest from Real Madrid during the summer, Hainer underlined Bayern’s financial and sporting independence.

“As for the rumours about Real Madrid during the summer, I can say that I am convinced Bayern Munich are not a club that can be forced to sell their players,” he said.

“We make our decisions from a position of strength. Michael Olise is under contract until 2029, and I hope he extends it.”

Hainer also offered his support to Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer after his mistake in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Augsburg.

Neuer miscontrolled the ball immediately after kick-off, allowing Robin Fellhauer to score after eight seconds. The goal was the fastest in Bundesliga history.

“It was obviously unfortunate. Manuel Neuer was, and remains, one of the best goalkeepers in the world,” Hainer said.

“He has won us points in so many matches. Mistakes like the one yesterday can always happen.”

Hainer rejected the suggestion that the error was connected to Neuer’s age.

“I am convinced it had nothing to do with his age. It could have happened to him when he was 20,” he said.

“He will get over it, and we are happy to have him with us.”
