Bayern Munich urge Vincent Kompany to take extended break after health scare

Vincent Kompany is expected to be away from Bayern Munich for several weeks after collapsing while watching the club’s second-team training session.

The Bayern Munich manager had already visited hospital several days earlier, where he spent a night undergoing medical examinations. German newspaper TZ reported that the results of those tests were negative.

Kompany is known at Bayern Munich for working late into the night and sleeping for only a few hours. Despite feeling unwell during the week, the Belgian continued to take charge of training with the first team before going to watch the second team, where he subsequently collapsed.

Bayern Munich officials are now insisting that Kompany takes sufficient rest and is given the time needed to make a full recovery before returning to his duties with the team.

The latest incident follows a viral infection and hip pain suffered by the manager recently. Those problems caused him to miss some training sessions and one news conference.

However, the precise reason for his most recent collapse remains unclear. Further medical examinations are expected before the club can establish what happened.

Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl indicated that Kompany’s absence would be considerably longer than a few days. Speaking in comments reported by Sky Sport Germany, Eberl said the manager would be unavailable for several weeks.

The club’s current priority is therefore to allow Kompany to recover fully, rather than set an immediate date for his return to the Bayern Munich dugout.
