Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund says the club is under no time pressure to extend Michael Olise’s contract, stressing that the France winger is settled at the German club.
Olise has made a significant impact since last season and is already regarded by Freund as one of the world’s leading players.
“Michael has developed remarkably with us and is currently one of the best players in the world,” Freund said when asked about the 23-year-old’s future and whether initial discussions over a new contract had begun.
“We are extremely happy that he plays for us. He is under contract until 2029, so there is no pressure.”
Freund added that Olise was very comfortable at Bayern Munich and said the club remained in regular contact with him.
“He feels very, very comfortable at Bayern Munich and we are always in contact with him. As I said, there is no time pressure,” he said.
The sporting director did not confirm or deny whether formal renewal talks had already started.
Reports of exploratory negotiations
Freund’s comments followed a report by Sky Sport Germany claiming Bayern Munich had opened exploratory discussions with Olise about extending his contract.
The report said the Frenchman could become the highest-paid player in the squad, moving ahead of Jamal Musiala. It also stated that Real Madrid believe Olise is more likely to remain with Bayern Munich.
Olise’s current contract does not contain a release clause.
The former Bayern Munich chief executive and current supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has also expressed confidence that Olise will stay at the club.
In comments to ran.de, Rummenigge said he hoped Harry Kane would renew his contract soon, “and that Michael will be next”.
