Former Bayern Munich President Uli Hoeness Hospitalized Amid Prison Sentence
Uli Hoeness, the former Bayern Munich president serving a three-and-a-half-year prison sentence for tax fraud, has been hospitalized due to heart problems. The 62-year-old was admitted to the emergency room of a Bavarian clinic on Monday, according to German newspaper Bild.
Following surgery, Hoeness will remain in the hospital until his treatment is complete, though the length of his stay remains unclear. Only after his recovery will he return to prison.
Despite being behind bars since June 2, Hoeness reportedly enjoys relatively comfortable detention conditions at Landsberg am Lech prison, located about 60 kilometers west of Munich. His 32-square-meter cell includes a flat-screen TV, and he reportedly shares the space with a convicted gynecologist nicknamed “Doctor Kalashnikov.” Hoeness is also allowed solitary meals, two hours of outdoor exercise daily, and exclusive access to hot water—luxuries that have drawn media attention amid his incarceration.
