Bayern Munich set to open contract extension talks with Dayot Upamecano

Bayern Munich are planning contract extension talks with Dayot Upamecano later this month.

The German Bundesliga defending champions regard the French defender with roots in Guinea as a key player and hope to continue with him for many years.

Upamecano’s current deal runs until the summer of 2026, but his situation has already attracted interest from other top clubs, with Bild recently linking Real Madrid to the 26-year-old.

Speaking to Sky, Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund praised the centre-back’s importance to the team, both on and off the pitch.

“Upa is an outstanding player with a great personality. He knows what he has at FC Bayern. I think he feels very comfortable, performs very well, and has a strong personality on and off the pitch,” Freund said, as quoted by MiaSanMia.

He added, “Of course, we hope he stays with us long-term. There is no deadline. But the transfer window is now over and we are turning our attention to other matters, and Upa plays a very important role in that.”

Checks have revealed that Upamecano is happy at Bayern Munich and is open to extending his stay.
