Bayern Munich seek response against RB Leipzig after frustrating week

The Bundesliga’s two most prolific attacks meet on Saturday as Bayern Munich host RB Leipzig at the Allianz Arena, with the home side looking to recover from two successive draws.

Vincent Kompany’s Bayern remain unbeaten in all competitions this season, but their form has dipped in October. They were held to a 3-3 draw by Viking FK in the Champions League on Tuesday after recovering from two goals down to lead 3-2. Michael Olise was then sent off before Herman Johan Haugen equalised in the 90th minute.

That result followed a 2-2 draw with Augsburg in Bayern’s previous Bundesliga fixture, meaning they are still waiting for their first win since the international break.

Bayern are third with 11 points, two behind Borussia Dortmund and surprise early leaders Freiburg. They can draw confidence from their perfect home record this season, having won all three matches at the Allianz Arena while scoring 17 goals and conceding one.

Leipzig are fifth on nine points, two behind Bayern and four adrift of the leaders. Martin Demichelis’ side secured a narrow 1-0 Champions League victory over PSV in midweek, surviving an early scare when Ivan Perisic missed a penalty. The result gave Leipzig back-to-back wins for the first time since August.

The victory also means Leipzig have won every home match in all competitions in 2026-27 and have not conceded at the Red Bull Arena this season. Their away record is considerably less encouraging, however, with three defeats in three visits since a 6-0 win over Eintracht Trier in the first round of the DFB-Pokal on 22 August.

Leipzig have also failed to beat Bayern since their 3-0 victory in the DFL-Supercup in August 2023. Since then, they have lost five and drawn two official matches against Saturday’s opponents.

Bayern will again be without attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala, who is recovering from a thigh injury. Ismael Saibari is expected to operate as the number 10, with Michael Olise and Luis Diaz behind Harry Kane. Manuel Neuer is doubtful after missing Thursday’s group training because of the foot injury that ruled him out against Viking FK, so Jonas Urbig could remain in goal.

Leipzig are missing midfielders Christoph Baumgartner and Assan Ouedraogo, who are recovering from hamstring and shoulder injuries respectively. Ezechiel Banzuzi and Neil El Aynaoui are expected to form the midfield pairing, ahead of Willi Orban and Castello Lukeba. Marc Guiu is also out with a hamstring injury, leaving Romulo to lead the attack, supported by Christopher Nkunku, Leipzig’s leading Bundesliga scorer with four goals.

Predicted teams

Bayern Munich: Urbig; Stanisic, Upamecano, Tah, Davies; Kimmich, Pavlovic; Olise, Saibari, Diaz; Kane.

RB Leipzig: Vandevoordt; Baku, Orban, Lukeba, Raum; Banzuzi, El Aynaoui; Gruda, Nkunku, Nusa; Romulo.

Recommended bets

– Correct score: Bayern Munich 3-1 RB Leipzig – 8.75 – Bayern Munich to win and Harry Kane to score – 1.55 – Luis Diaz to score – 2.08

Despite their two latest draws, Bayern’s strong home record and attacking options make them favourites. Leipzig’s two-match winning run is offset by their poor away form, meaning anything other than another defeat would be a surprise.
