Bayern Munich prioritising Dayot Upamecano’s contract extension despite interest in Schlotterbeck
Bayern Munich are determined to extend the contract of French defender of Guinean descent Dayot Upamecano despite interest in Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck.
Upamecano’s current deal with Bayern runs until the summer of 2026, but according to SPORT1, securing his extension remains a top priority for the German champions.
The report suggests that Bayern’s management has decided to take a more patient approach to negotiations. In the latest episode of the Die Bayern-Woche podcast, SPORT1 chief reporter Stefan Kumberger noted that the club is “taking things easy for now and not putting too much pressure on the talks.”
He added that based on their experience with previous contract discussions, Bayern remain confident of reaching an agreement with Upamecano.
Kumberger emphasised that the club’s respect for the French international “remains very high,” even as they adopt a calmer stance. Interestingly, Bayern’s interest in Schlotterbeck could strengthen their negotiating position, as it signals that the club has alternatives.
According to SPORT1, the potential move for Schlotterbeck could prove financially advantageous for Bayern.
While the Dortmund defender would likely command a higher salary at the Allianz Arena than at BVB, his overall cost would still be lower than that of extending Upamecano’s contract.
“Basically, it’s a good and important point that both the player and the club know what they have in each other,” Kumberger explained.
“Bayern have no doubts about Upamecano’s abilities. Now both sides have the opportunity to explore how they might move forward.”
The report further indicates that the relationship between Bayern and Upamecano remains strong, and the upcoming winter break could serve as an ideal window for more concrete negotiations.
