Bayern Munich lose Ismael Saibari for at least three months before Atletico Madrid test

Bayern Munich will be without Ismael Saibari for at least three months after the midfielder underwent ankle surgery, while Michael Olise is a doubt for Tuesday’s Champions League meeting with Atletico Madrid.

According to German newspaper Bild, Saibari suffered an injury which required an operation and is expected to spend no fewer than three months on the sidelines. Serge Gnabry is also facing a spell out after sustaining a hamstring problem, with his absence estimated at between four and six weeks.

The injuries were suffered during Bayern Munich’s 2-2 draw with Borussia Dortmund on Saturday. The Bundesliga match was played at the Allianz Arena in Munich and left the German club dealing with four fitness concerns ahead of their next European fixture.

Olise has yet to receive a precise diagnosis for his injury, meaning his availability for the trip to the Riyadh Air Metropolitano remains uncertain. Bayern are also assessing goalkeeper Jonas Urbig, who experienced dizziness after taking a heavy blow to the head during the Dortmund game.

The club are continuing to monitor Urbig closely before deciding whether he can feature against Atletico Madrid. The match is scheduled for Tuesday and forms part of the fourth round of the Champions League.

Bayern Munich arrive in Madrid seeking a response after drawing their past two Champions League matches. They shared six goals in a 3-3 draw with Norwegian club Viking before being held to a 2-2 draw by English side Arsenal.

The latest injury setbacks leave Bayern with significant decisions to make before facing Atletico Madrid, particularly over the condition of Olise and Urbig.
