Bayern Munich have stepped up efforts to sign Nico Williams, launching a renewed bid as Barcelona continue to struggle with registration issues that have stalled a deal for the Athletic Club winger.
Williams, who has Ghanaian heritage, has emerged as one of Europe’s most sought-after attacking talents following a strong season in La Liga and a breakout performance at Euro 2024.
While Barcelona remain his preferred destination and have agreed personal terms on a six-year deal, the move remains in limbo due to financial constraints and ongoing negotiations with the player’s representatives.
According to Sky Germany, Bayern Munich are determined to capitalise on the delay by significantly increasing their offer.
The Bundesliga club is reportedly prepared to offer Williams a net salary of €12 million per year in a final attempt to lure him to the Allianz Arena.
With Leroy Sané gone and veteran forward Thomas Müller nearing the end of his Bayern tenure, the club sees Williams as a crucial addition to their left flank.
Although Barcelona are reportedly prepared to trigger Williams’ release clause, La Liga president Javier Tebas recently reaffirmed that the Catalan giants must resolve their financial situation before registering new signings under the league’s 1:1 rule.
Both Athletic Club and Barcelona are scheduled to resume training on July 13, and a resolution is expected shortly.
