Bayern Munich Eyes Raphael Varane for Winter Transfer
French international Raphaël Varane, despite being a regular for Les Bleus, is struggling for consistent game time at Real Madrid. Stuck behind established center-backs Sergio Ramos and Pepe, Varane’s situation is attracting growing interest from across Europe.
According to Marca, Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola has personally entered the race to secure Varane’s services. The Spanish coach is said to have met with the defender’s agent in an effort to facilitate a winter move to Germany.
Varane, who hails from Martinique and is under contract with Real Madrid until 2020, is also a long-standing target of José Mourinho, who managed him at Madrid and would reportedly welcome him at Chelsea.
However, Real Madrid may be reluctant to part ways with the talented 21-year-old, viewed as a key piece of their future defense. It remains to be seen whether Guardiola’s interest and Bayern’s financial power can tempt Los Blancos into negotiation during the January transfer window.
