Bayern Munich, the reigning Champions League champions, is reportedly considering strengthening its central defense for the upcoming season. According to Canal+, the Spanish coach, Pep Guardiola, is interested in securing the services of Cameroonian central defender Nicolas Nkoulou from Marseille. Nkoulou had previously turned down an offer from his former club, Monaco.
Bayern Munich is said to be preparing a proposal of 14 million euros to acquire Nkoulou, who is currently training with the Cameroonian national team for the World Cup qualifiers. The defender is set to face Togo on June 9 as part of the 4th day of the qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
If the move for Nkoulou doesn’t materialize, Bayern Munich reportedly has a backup plan and could target Arsenal’s defender Laurent Koscielny. Guardiola is determined to reinforce his defensive lineup as he aims to maintain the team’s success in both domestic and European competitions.
