Uli Hoeness, the president of Bayern Munich, admitted during his trial for tax fraud that he owed more than 27 million euros to the tax authorities, potentially leading to a prison sentence of up to 10 years. His lawyer confirmed the figures presented by the prosecution, indicating that the defense had nothing to dispute.
The court spokesperson stated that if no additional appeal is filed, the judgment could be rendered as early as Thursday. The amount of fraud charged has escalated since the trial began, with initial estimates of 3.5 million euros increasing to 27.2 million euros, according to tax authorities.
Despite his legal troubles, Hoeness received support from figures within Bayern Munich, including manager Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and player Franck Ribéry. However, coach Pep Guardiola chose not to comment on the matter, considering it a personal issue for Hoeness.
