Bayern Munich face stumbling block in Dayot Upamecano’s contract renewal

Bayern Munich have one big problem in their quest to extend the contract of France international of Guinea-Bissau descent Dayot Upamecano.

The 26-year-old, who is in the final year of his contract at Bayern Munich has yet to sign a new deal, sparking concerns about his future at the club.

Upamecano joined the Bundesliga giants in summer 2021 and has since established himself as a key member of the squad, winning numerous silverwares with the club.

With his contract expiring in June 2026, the Bavarian giants has moved to extend his stay at the club, but all effort has proved futile due to salary demands.

According to reports in Germany, both parties are currently at impasse over salary terms, with the enterprising defender said to be demanding around €20 million per year, a figure Bayern Munich are unwilling to pay.

Nevertheless, the German giants remains optimistic about reaching an agreement with the defender over a new deal.

Meanwhile, top clubs in Europe including Real Madrid and others are said to be ready to meet Upamecano’s demands.

The 26-year-old defender has made six appearances in the German Bundesliga this season for Bayern Munich.
