Bayern Munich expect Vincent Kompany to return after international break

Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeness says head coach Vincent Kompany could return to the dugout after the next international break.

The Belgian was taken to hospital after fainting while watching a training session involving the club’s youth team. Since then, his assistant Aaron Danks has been in charge of the Bundesliga side.

Hoeness told German broadcaster BR24 on Sunday that Kompany was expected to rejoin the squad within two or three weeks.

“He will return to us in two or three weeks. So after the international break, he will be back on the bench,” Hoeness said.

“He had been working 12 hours a day, six days a week. That was simply too much.”

Kompany’s progress had previously been described more cautiously by Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl following Saturday’s victory over Mainz.

“Vini is making good progress in his recovery,” Eberl said. “However, we still have to wait for the doctors to give the green light before allowing him to return.”

If Hoeness’ prediction proves accurate, Kompany could resume his duties for Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga fixture against Cologne on 20 November 2026.

Five days later, Bayern are due to face Lille in the Champions League, before travelling to Hamburg the following Saturday.
