Bayern Munich chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen has disclosed that the club is on the verge of extending the contract of France defender of Guinea-Bissau descent, Dayot Upamecano.
Speaking to German newspaper Bild, Dreesen revealed that negotiations over Upamecano’s renewal have reached their final phase, with all major terms already agreed verbally.
According to the Bayern CEO, the remaining steps are purely procedural, and the official signing is expected to be completed within the next few days.
“When there is mutual trust and a commitment to one’s word, the timing of the signing becomes secondary. There are no obstacles, and it will be done in just a few days,” Dreesen said.
He went on to explain that the agreement itself has been settled for some time, with legal teams now handling the formal documentation.
“The verbal agreement was reached some time ago, and the rest are paperwork procedures being carried out by the lawyers. What matters is the outcome, and the outcome has been in place for days, and it will be documented in writing soon,” he added.
The confirmation comes despite earlier reports suggesting that the club had set a deadline for Upamecano to accept the official offer, a deadline that passed without a formal announcement.
While speculation continued in recent weeks, Dreesen’s comments appear to have put those doubts to rest.
With Upamecano’s current contract due to expire at the end of the season, securing the 27-year-old’s future has been viewed as a key priority for Bayern as they look to maintain stability at the heart of their defence.
Dreesen’s confident tone reflects a sense of calm and optimism within the Bavarian camp, effectively ending uncertainty around Upamecano’s future and pointing towards his continued presence at the Allianz Arena for years to come.
