Bayern Munich is behind in the race to sign England defender of Ivorian descent, Marc Guehi, despite holding multiple meetings with the player’s representatives.

Speculation surrounding a possible move for the centre-back has intensified, with Bayern among the clubs closely monitoring his situation.

Guehi, who is 25, is not expected to renew his contract at Crystal Palace, a decision that would make him available on a free transfer when his current deal expires next summer.

According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Bayern have already conducted two meetings with Guehi’s camp, placing the centre-back firmly on the club’s shortlist. However, the Bundesliga giants’ next move is said to depend heavily on the future of Dayot Upamecano.

If Upamecano commits his future to Bayern by signing a new contract, Guehi could be forced to consider alternative destinations. On the other hand, a potential departure for the French defender would make Guehi a strong and realistic option for the Bavarians.

At present, Bayern are understood to be competing with three other heavyweight clubs for his signature, with Liverpool, Real Madrid and Barcelona also in contention.
