European heavyweights Bayern Munich and Arsenal are locked in a transfer battle to secure the signature of Nico Williams, following the winger’s standout season with Athletic Bilbao.
The 22-year-old Spanish international, who is of Ghanaian descent, has become a prime target for both clubs after consistently impressing for both club and country.
Williams was previously on Barcelona’s radar, but ultimately chose to extend his stay with Bilbao last summer, signing a contract that runs until 2027.
Despite committing his future to the Basque side, Williams’ form has reignited interest across Europe.
This season, he has racked up 11 goals and 7 assists in 45 appearances, reaffirming his status as one of La Liga’s rising stars.
Bayern Munich and Arsenal have now placed him high on their summer transfer wishlists.
Both clubs are reportedly willing to trigger his €58 million release clause. However, his salary expectations remain a significant hurdle in negotiations.
Bayern are believed to have already held multiple meetings with the player’s representatives, with further talks scheduled throughout June as they attempt to edge out Arsenal in the race for his signature.
