Pep Guardiola Criticizes Michel Platini’s Pressure on Franck Ribéry
Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola has expressed frustration over UEFA president Michel Platini’s persistent demands that Franck Ribéry return to the French national team, despite the winger’s decision to retire from international football this summer.
Platini has publicly threatened Ribéry with sanctions should he decline any future call-ups from France coach Didier Deschamps. However, Guardiola believes the issue is being blown out of proportion.
“I don’t understand the controversy started by Platini,” Guardiola said at a recent press conference. “Franck spoke with his coach [Didier Deschamps]. In the end, it’s up to the player to make his decision.”
Guardiola welcomed the news that Ribéry will now be fully available for Bayern Munich duties, while Deschamps appears to have accepted the player’s choice.
