Bayer Leverkusen are stepping up efforts to sign Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah as they look to fill a key gap in their backline.
Talks between the Bundesliga champions and the Premier League side are underway, according to Sky Sports, with the 22-year-old high on Leverkusen’s shortlist.
Quansah featured in 25 matches across competitions for Liverpool last season, mostly coming off the bench. Though he remains under contract with the Reds until 2029, a summer move is being considered. Leverkusen initially expressed interest weeks ago, and discussions have now moved into a more concrete phase.
Sky reports that negotiations over Quansah are being handled separately from any other transfers. The young defender, recently linked with the English national team, is admired for his strength, speed, and passing ability, traits that could make him a strong replacement for Jonathan Tah.
If finalized, the deal would eclipse the club’s record for a defensive signing, currently held by Odilon Kossounou’s €23 million move in 2021. A complete package for Quansah is expected to exceed €30 million, making him a historic investment for Bayer.
