Bayer Leverkusen contract talks stall as Christian Kofane hits pause
Christian Kofane’s proposed contract extension at Bayer Leverkusen has stalled after the 20-year-old forward reportedly paused negotiations.
Sport Bild reports that Leverkusen had planned to extend Kofane’s deal, which runs until 2029, by two years to 2031 and significantly improve his wages. A signing date had been expected in mid-September, but no agreement has been completed.
The delay is said to be linked to differing views within the player’s advisory circle. Kofane reportedly shared the proposed terms with other intermediaries, who suggested there may be room to secure a better deal.
The issue is not a release clause or a higher basic salary, but a possible signing-on bonus. It remains unclear whether Leverkusen are willing to improve that part of the package.
Kofane is not pushing for an exit and still wants to stay at Leverkusen. He has also retained his agency, Afrosport, after recently extending their working relationship.
Premier League clubs are monitoring the Cameroon forward. Arsenal have been in contact since spring, while Newcastle, Aston Villa and Everton made approaches in August. Manchester United have also reportedly enquired.
