Bayer Leverkusen block Arsenal’s move for English-Ghanaian defender Jarell Quansah

Bayer Leverkusen have no intention of selling Jarell Quansah this summer despite interest from England, with the German club determined to keep the 23-year-old centre-back.

According to Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg, Leverkusen have made it clear internally that Quansah is not available for transfer and will remain an important part of their defence.

The stance comes after Arsenal reportedly made an inquiry about the conditions for a potential deal.

Leverkusen take control of Quansah’s future

Leverkusen’s position has been strengthened by changes to Quansah’s contract.

Plettenberg reports that the defender’s current agreement contains neither a release clause nor a buy-back option for Liverpool, leaving Leverkusen with greater control over his future.

That means there is currently no straightforward mechanism for another club to force through a transfer, with Leverkusen under no pressure to sell.

Quansah remains key to defence

Quansah joined Leverkusen from Liverpool in 2025 in a deal worth between £30m and £35m and has a contract with the Bundesliga club until 2030.

Despite Arsenal’s reported interest, a move this summer is therefore not currently being considered.

Leverkusen could still face pressure if a major offer arrives, but their internal position remains unchanged: Quansah is expected to stay and continue playing a significant role in the team’s defence.

For the defender, whose African heritage adds another connection to the growing number of African-rooted players making an impact in Europe’s top leagues, the decision represents a strong indication of Leverkusen’s confidence in his long-term future.
